Roxbury Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday

On Thursday, February 16, 2017 TotalCare (Home Care Provider) and elected officials will honor Muriel O’B. Walker as she celebrates her 100th Birthday. The celebration will be held at the MLK Towers, 280 MLK Jr. Blvd., Roxbury at 11:00 a.m. In honor of Muriel’s centennial birthday she will receive several citations, proclamations and resolutions from the offices of U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Congressman Michael Capuano, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, Mayor Martin J. Walsh, City Councilor Tito Jackson as well as a musical performance by Gospel Recording Artist, Margaret Holmes.

Muriel was born in 1917, in Cambridge, MA and has resided in Boston, Mass. For over 90 years. She was one of five girls, the baby of her family and the only surviving sister. A graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls she went on to become an Assistant Dance Coach to Mildred Davenport.

She has been a member of St. Mark Congregational Church in Dorchester MA for over 90 years where she has worn many hats ranging from: Advisor to teen girls, Leader of both Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls, Team Leader registered youth for Vacation Bible School for many years, sang in the choir until she was in her 80’s then became a member of the Bell Choir and rang bells until December 2016.

In addition to spending time with her grand and great grandchildren she also enjoys vacationing with the family or cruising with her friends.
